The effect of a psychomotor intervention on electroencephalography and neuropsychological performances in older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment

Abstract Aim The aim of this pilot study was to examine the acute effect a psychomotor intervention (PMI) on auditory‐verbal memory, emotional state, and electrocortical activity recorded by electroencephalography subjectively healthy older adults (sHE) diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCIs). Methods Eleven MCIs 11 sHE underwent single 45‐min PMI. Resting state electroencephalography, Rey Auditory‐Verbal Learning Test, MoodMeter®, Positive Negative Affect Schedule were compared between groups pre‐ post‐PMI. Results Electroencephalography current source density within theta frequency band higher in than at baseline, brain had tendency decrease after training. Both showed improvement memory test. Only among there increases perceived physical psychological strain an negative affect. Conclusions Our findings suggest that may be more effective for sHE. It supports notion PMI does have functional influences central nervous level therefore might prevent treat cognitive, psychological, psychiatric symptoms people impairment.
